A Journey through a Cedar Forest

— Such would have been the might of the town of Uruk if only it had acknowledged the abundance of cedar trees! What glory for Gilgamesh and his friend Enkidu!

— A dream as good as any other.

— Better! Enkidu knows the cedar forest is guarded by the monster Humbaba, the most foul of the reptiles made by god’s hand, the most hideous spider, the bloodiest bear. What an expedition this shall be, what an opponent worthy of the valiant Gilgamesh!

— But Enkidu also knows that the gods have placed Humbaba there to guard the cedars. Killing the beast could enrage them.

— Yet he does so anyway. He loves Gilgamesh too much to give in.
