The Wise Man

— He finally stands before the old man who survived the Deluge. Why? No one knows, not even himself. There is no wisdom in his fate, no secret of eternal life. The gods rained death down upon the whole world; on a whim, he and his wife were granted life without end.

— You will not escape fate, Gilgamesh. Even the gods are captives of their path, even they cannot flee destiny.

— But fear not, the wise man’s wife has taken a shine to you. Maybe you remind her of her son, swept away by the storms of the deluge. Maybe this is just how it is meant to be. The witch smiles as she whispers in the old man’s ear, he nods and reveals that eternal life will not be yours. But you may get ahold of a plant that restores youth.

— That will do.
