Enkidu’s Illness

— You clashed with Gilgamesh, Enkidu, you defeated Humbaba. But you shall not conquer the disease unleashed by the gods. Your body shall fall apart and burn from inside. You also suffered when you were an animal, but now you know what is in store for you.

— You curse the gods, the town, and Shamhat! You gaze with revulsion at the door of cedar you seized from Humbaba’s domain. After a short nap, Gilgamesh returns to the hut to stand guard once more at your bedside.

— A friend weeps beside you and you bow your head. You want to spare him the pain in your eyes.
